We inhabit a world of diagrams and signs as much as physical objects. Through my work I study the historical processes, technical aspects and social practices involved in creating and circulating certain kinds of imagery. I am referring to the pictures we use for constructing, validating and maintaining the stories that we tell to determine our beliefs and actions. Our behaviors, established through visual means, lead to ways of living that are causing unprecedented societal and ecological crises and that appear to be ever- present and all- encompassing. I’m interested in observing stories that fail to settle down, are unsuccessfully built, and fail to take root because of contexts that are unfitting. My work is about moments in which perceptions of stability and certainty are broken. I see these moments as openings. They are necessary reminders of the limitations of any human model of the world and the transient nature of all structures. For me, these conditions present opportunities to imagine, resist and hope. I try to translate these moments through my art by investigating, connecting, juxtaposing, transforming and sometimes, pushing to the limit, visual regimes or devices of representation. In this endeavor&nbsp; I’ve sought to find varied channels and strategies for creation and distribution. Using drawing as a structuring tool, a methodology more than a medium, my work has taken the shape of installations, artistic laboratories and publications. installation and sound, half a ton of red clay, broken glass collected from the sidewalks of Phoenix, AZ. With closing performances by: Memo Gutierrez, Villamil &amp; Villamil and Zack Hansen. Long ago, a king built mountains so his lover would not miss the green valleys she left behind. Today, in a far away valley covered in asphalt and scorching sand and serpentine shapes seen from the sky, we fulfill the dreams in which we always get what we want. Rubber wheels kiss the tar, a hundred miles per hour, blurring the colors of marigold and grass. Down the curve and up the ramp, a king’s wish now shines under the sun. In this installation, the highway system in Arizona is understood as a huge garden. A cascade of artificial water washes a single mound that takes the whole exhibition space. The sound of the water falling fills the venue. The artists continually&nbsp; tend the mound with a water sprinkler to keep its structural integrity and accentuate the red color of the clay. variable MEDIUM is a score that can be adapted to specific contexts and circumstances. The project is a performative drawing whose footprint are illegible, large format images. The artist assumes the role of a medium, who serves as a conduit to translate a message. Each drawing is made on a grid drawn by the medium during a determined period of time. Each drawing is the transcription of a period of dialogue and is understood as a singular message. This message is obtained by asking a series of values to Google’s online stochastic number generator . These values are used to extract images from a determined bibliographic collection and to make decisions such as the position and color of the drawing on the grid. The mediums are limited to operating the number generator, the collection and transcribing the drawings using their non-dominant hand. On its first iteration MEDIUM occurred at the Harry Wood Gallery, at the Arizona State University Art Building in the Tempe campus. It took the form of a 9 days durational performance that started on April 30th, 2024. During that time, 3 artists ( Auberi Zwickel, Jade Muñoz and Germán Benincore), channeled information and transcribed it into the gallery walls. The gallery was open from 9 am to 5 pm.&nbsp; On The last day, Thursday, May 9th, a closing reception was held and the public had the opportunity to see the resulting message. On Monday, May 13th, the gallery walls were painted over. In my project MEDIUM, I seek to create an alternative approach to a matrix of images that aim to explain the universe. Using drawing as a tool, I reflect on the supposed objectivity and “veracity” of images produced as tools for the dissemination of Western scientific discourse. Under its pretense of objectivity, these images make invisible the dynamics of power and violence typical of colonization processes. Despite the proliferation of discourses about complexity and the migration of formats to the digital space, the encyclopedic scheme continues to be used to organize and disseminate knowledge. The disappearance of the artifact-encyclopedia/library created by the possibilities of digital space contributes to making the superstructure invisible and naturalizing a unique and particular way of understanding knowledge rooted in extraction and exploitation processes that have led to an unprecedented socio-environmental crisis. The world of scientific discourse is transparent, knowledge can apprehend everything. This transparent world can’t stop, even if it’s falling apart. My proposal is a pause produced by noise, by illegibility that creates opacity as opposed to transparency. An absurd procedure as a counter proposition for knowledge making that it’s only possible in the interstice produced by the exhibition moment. <img width="6000" height="4000" width_o="6000" This is the starting point of a story about the end of times, dogs, ants, fire, plants, dust and the&nbsp; human determination not to perish.&nbsp; Eden is an ongoing editorial project that will take the form of a graphic novel but that, in the meantime, explores the possibility of existing in the exhibition format. It is a rhythmic narration, gradually recounting a series of catastrophic events, many of which seem strangely familiar. The narration is articulated through the description of the state of the world at the moment in which it seems to come to an end, or at least the world as we humans have shaped it. The voice of an omniscient narrator jumps from one catastrophic event to another and stops at certain moments that show the reaction of different actors in this apocalyptic theater:insects, dogs, cities. Eden is constructed by connecting a series of commonplaces and narratives about The End that exist in the collective subconscious and circulate in popular culture. Visually, it takes the strategies and form of dictionaries and encyclopedias, characteristic texts of the project of modernity, with its roots deeply rooted in faith in technique and knowledge of the universe. This world, the world of transparency and technical omnipotence, seems destined for destruction. This discourse, of complete understanding, is now obsolete, that same knowledge and the technique it developed are at the root of the crisis. The events narrated in this story are both catastrophic, apocalyptic and everyday, many of them (the sea that claims the land, the fire, the desolate streets) could be descriptions of real events. The characters are as fanciful as they are recognizable. accumulation of a series of divination games that I carried on during the quarantine,supposing the interconnectedness of everything but doubting the exact path of those connections. In it, I used drawing as a tool for divination. As an instrument to fill the gaps. Following the ideas proposed by theories of complexity, the universe is an infinite web of relationships between systems. A complex of systems within systems, where each element is just a node connected to everything else. That means that I know that everything is connected at some level. I just don’t know exactly how. The mesh of the universe is too tight to follow a thread. Following this path of causation is fundamental for the understanding of knowledge making within the scientific paradigm. If the connection is certain, if the path can be retraced again and again it’s considered as a fact. If a wrong turn is taken in the process, if the path gets deviated, then that would be called superstition. I’m interested in how blurry the line between both denominations is for most of us, ( even if we don’t want to accept it).&nbsp; I’m also interested in the images that we produce to explain these relations, to explicate the inner functioning of the universe, what cannot be experienced directly, just imagined. These images that&nbsp; tend to be some sort of drawing ( diagrams, schemes) are usually insufficient at conveying what they pretend to, and for that same reason become poetic as they show us the limits of our own tools for understanding. This collection of divination games consisted in reimagining the meager experiences of everyday life in isolation (the way fallen leaves deposited on the floor of my garden, the resulting shape of a bowl that broke unexplainably, the form of the cloud I could see through my window ) as indexes of greater, more important happenings, somewhere else.&nbsp; However, all the piece proposes is just the methodology, there are no results. As a structuring thought for this project, there was a question embedded in these games. About the very nature of the structure of the universe.The question is simple: are things fundamentally separated? or is connection and entanglement the rule and nature of things?. Is the universe a multitude of discrete objects or an indivisible entity with a myriad of faces? This question seemed important and pertinent in a moment in which isolation became the norm but only as a consequence of an increasingly connected world. &nbsp;Regarding the answer, both ideas seem to be true, depending on the level we observe things at: The nucleus of the atoms never touch each other, at an atomic level there is a diminute gap between everything.&nbsp; However, at higher levels of complexity, everything exists only by interaction. The space between things is blurry as it changes depending on where we stand and which instruments we use to look at it. The procedures were compiled as a constellation in a 7 meter long table that prompted the viewer to interact with it spatially. The walk around the table is an index too, a reference to a long period of time compressed into the displayed objects and images.
